A simple puzzle to introduce children and students to polyominoes - see Solomon Golomb's "Polyominoes", Three targets consisting of arrays of 16 squares are to be filled by three sets of polyominoes. The targets are arranged to mimic a house with 2 rooms and an attic. Each set of polyominoes can fill any of the rooms . One set contains 4 identical tetrominoes, a second set a hexomino and two pentomioes, and a third set a tromino, two tetrominoes and a pentomino. Notes: A search for 4 tetrominos to fill the targets found a single solution - four T-tetrominoes A search for a hexomino and 2 pentominoes found a single solution - P and L pentminoes and one of the 35 hexominoes A search for 2 tetrominoes, a tromino, and a pentomino found seven sets of pieces - the one chosen here - L-tetromino, T-tetromino, W-pentomino, and V-tromino - and six others. Two of the additional six sets are made by replacing the W pentomino in the chosen set with a P or an L pentomino. A search for 2 hexominoes and a tetromino found no solutions although there were solutions that filled 2 of the three targets. A search for two trominos and two pentominos found six sets of pieces. One set has identical pairs. Searches were done with tiling-0.05.tar - http://djm.cc/dmoews.html
