Singer tension indicator cup

A common problem on vintage Singer sewing machines is that the cross bar on the tension indicator snaps so when lifting the presser foot, the thread tension is not relieved. You can buy replacement parts quite cheaply but I didn't want to wait. You could stick a label on to indicate +/- but it's pretty obvious with the numbered dial.

Photos show the broken original (white) and the replacement (brown ABS). It's rough and ready but works for me. Might need a bit of fettling to get it to fit over the tension spindle
