I wanted my SkyWatcher to be goto capable. Currently it is in the ballpark of being on target but as the parts are 3d printed and I only ever did a one star alignment it is still off by a couple of arcmins. The goal of the project was to make viewing easier and that one is definitely accomplished. The setup uses 500:1 reduction pulley system for both axis and OnStepX on a Fysetc E4 board to drive the motors.
For printing I suggest to lay each part flat so no supports are needed except for the AZ gear. That one has to be printed with the largest surface on the bed and supporting the bolt extrusion.
Hardware used:
- For the ALT gear you can reuse the bolts that are already there and add one or two M10 nuts so the handle can be screwed in.
- AZ Gear needs a set of 5 M10*80 bolts and nuts and I added washers for support (I reused the washers from the existing bolt for the middle one).
- A 12" lazy suzan for the AZ movement and some ball bearings to smooth out the ALT movement (bal
