Small Hive Beetle Trap - Lid

This is a custom lid for a 68mm jar for trapping small hive beetles in a beehive. I designed this to fit in my Long Langstoth beehive so I can access, empty, clean and refill with oil or diatomaceous earth from outside the hive without disturbing the bees. The lid is fitted inside the hive floor through a hole cut to size. It can be glued or screwed in place.

There are two versions. One is lots of holes and the other is slots. The idea is that the SHB will be be corralled by the bees and fall through the holes or slots and die in the jar.

I'm still testing both, so can't recommend one over the other. My sense is that the slot will be better. Try for yourself and let me know your results.
