So I made these because I am forever misplacing my hooks in my reptile room. I also thought they would be good for my rehabilitation carers to have handy, and they are also a cheap way to upcycle an old golf club that you may have lying around into a useful husbandry/care tool.
I came up with two types: Classic Python “U” Hook and a more triangular one used for smaller elapid or colubrid snakes.
The Python hook has stood up to my Large Bredli Python, Earl, who is approximately 7kg without much issue.
I printed them with ABS and ASA for strength, and also heat and UV resistance. But having said that, my test one that I did on PETG is also still going strong.
I printed them with 75% groid infill for strength. The golf clubs I had available at the dump, trash and treasure had 10mm shafts. I simply cut the heads off with a grinder and used 5-minute 2-part Epoxy to stick them on.
By no means are they designed to be a herping trip field hook, I'm sure they won't take that sort of abuse
