Regular mazes are boring? Why not make it in 3D? why not make it in a sphere shape? Why not add a few gimbals in the middle to keep our balls parallel to the ground? This design can be given to any child or adult as a cool 3D toy to play around with or a teaching tool to students, etc. The 72mm outer diameter of this maze makes it perfect to be held in the hand and to be played around with (see picture). I have spent some time having fun with the maze. It's not the hardest maze ever but it is quite tricky at times. Feel free to try to solve it and let me know what you thought about it (check out the SphereMaze.STL) All parts are designed to be printed using a transparent material (some parts are died with different colors in the uploaded pictures for clarity purposes) beside the ball which could be printed from a non transparent material for visibility purposes. The transparent maze and the moving gimbals in the inside makes this a very aesthetically pleasing present. The dimensions and clearances on this model was modified so it could be printed using the "Frosted Ultra Detail" transparent material on shapeways but I recommend using the Objet printer to use fully transparent at material. Three orthogonal gimbals help to stabilize the bowl and prevent other balls inside the sphere from exiting (you can disassemble to retrieve the ball). Inter-lockable parts enhances it's printability by allowing each part to be easily manufactured which makes the support material removal very easy.
