I created this Spirograph inspired marble run. A hand crank is used to turn a big gear, which in turn rotates two additional (smaller) gears that have magnets mounted inside them. Metal marbles on the top will be attracted by the magnets forcing them to route a path through the sand in a pattern. This is my first attempt at making functional gears so I have a lot to learn! I discovered that there is a lot of friction in the gears making it more difficult than I would have liked to turn the crank. Print GuideWhen printing the Gears that will house the magnets, ensure the holes are large enough for the magnets you intend to use. The holes in the model that I printed used 10mm diameter x 1.8mm thick magnets (which were a little on the weak side). I would opt for stronger/larger magnets in the future.
