Just finished design for a filament spool rack. Too many filament spools collecting on the floor, I decided to design a spool rack that would support from beneath a wall shelf.
Recently I installed a wall shelf that I purchased from Ikea, the dimensions are 46-7/8"LG x 11"Wx1”THK. I did not want to drill into the new wood shelf, so I designed a spool holder and an insert attachment for a 1 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC Pipe that would slide in and out of the Ikea shelf bracket.
I used AutoCAD Mechanical 2017 to design the spool holder and the insert attachment. I exported the model to STL format, and generated G-Code using Simplify3D. The spool holder parts were printed on a FlashForge Creator Pro. I used Frontline PLA filament – color White. The 3D model was printed at extruder temperature 230c and platform temperature 60c. I used 220 grit sand paper to remove the shards. Each spool holder took 14 hours to print, and each insert attachment took 5 hours to print.
