I wanted a simple spool holder next to my printer so the strand wouldn't bend or cause stress on my extruder. I designed this in OnShape and all you need to buy are some small skateboard bearings from Amazon (screenshot of bearings included). I made this with a second notch in the middle so you can move the back roller in to hold smaller diameter spools. I printed with AMZ3D White PLA, but this should work with any material you have handy.
Edit: I've been using this for about a year and am very pleased with the result. I tweaked the base design to remove the small feet at the ends. I had to remove these with a knife when I was printing with a narrow spool and realized they don't serve a functional purpose. Only fallback is when the spool gets low on plastic and is lighter weight, the bases can slide if your table top is smooth. I just placed a wood block between the ends of the bases and my printer. You could also place a bit of tape on the bottom of the bases to hold them i
