Another spool holder. This one holds the filament spool 90 degrees so the filament roll aligns with the normal extruder motion. No more filament twisting and jumping off the spool (that's the theory, anyway). I just built and tried it for a small print. Fit is anemic, but it did snap on without breaking and stayed there while the printer worked.
A more flexible material than PLA is probably a good idea for this. Thinking a two part screw together holder is a better idea.
Designed in Meshmixer, primitives are crude, so product has warts. This is a work in progress...
ps: I've been using it for a couple days now, printing a kg of filament. The spool holder has been working very well. Silent, no squeaks, no rattles... Now I just need to mod it with a better grip mechanism.
