The Steamboat Arabia was a 19th-century American paddlewheel steamboat that sank in 1856 in the Missouri River after hitting a submerged tree. Loaded with everyday goods for frontier towns, it was remarkably preserved under river silt. Discovered and excavated in 1988, the Arabia is often called a “time capsule” of pre–Civil War life, offering a detailed look at commerce and daily living in the American West.
