I loved my copy of the game and wanted to make some tweaks to the pieces for better usability.
(I printed mine at 80 or 90% scale, .stl files are at the original size for others to use, just scaled in slicer)
Added a 9% (as high as I could go without changing shape) tilt back to the face. This dramatically improves readability without bending down to get a better angle for the traditional 90degree units
Added a brick like texture to the back. The slight extra thickness eliminates being able to see through the pieces when using lighter colour materials, also helps a lot if there is a strong light on the other side if the room.
The non uniform back also obscures number/shape if this does occur.
Increased the number size, with 40 pieces in front of you, slightly bigger makes a big difference. I also liked mine scaled down slightly, so larger number helps.
There seems to have been some confusion around the Art for the pieces. (It has changed a lot over many decades)
