Experimenting with Bahtinov Mask designs. I once made a Newt with a secondary suspended by very thin steel wire. The diffraction spikes were noteworthy. So I got to wondering about a mask using thin string.
This mask is 158mm outside diameter - intended for my WO 132FLT. I have yet to compare it with a standard Bahtinov Mask due to weather, life, you name it. So I'm presenting it here for you guys to try.
The one pictured was strung with very thin monofilament "thread". I picked up a spool of the thread at the sewing department in the local store. I suppose you could use Spider Wire, regular thread, etc. It needs to be something that you can tension a little and it not sag. But don't go nuts because it might bend the frame a little.
Please give it a try and let me know if it shows better focusing spikes than a standard mask. I'm very curious if different string matters, etc. as well.
I imagine you could scale it up or down for a scope close to the size I've made h
