The canopy latch is pretty flimsy and unreliable out of the box. I was not too impressed when on the second flight I apparently didn't have it just right and the canopy came off as I threw it. I got to work designing a better system and this is what I came up with. 3D printed 1/4-20 nut retainer and a DIY thumbscrew. Both nylon nut and bolt were purchased at Lowes for .58 cents each (4-packs). I used some left over servo screws to attach the mount since they have a slightly wider head on them. The DIY thumbscrew is just a piece of 3D printed plastic glued into the slot on the nylon bolt. The result is a much more robust attachment system and it only takes a couple seconds longer to open.
