This Halloween, I constructed a large spiders web from rope in my house's carport. It has a smooth metal ceiling, and I needed a way to affix the rope which would be able to support the rope under tension and also the spiders, but be non-permanent. The challenge with using things like 3M sticky tabs or double-sided tape for this kind of thing is that they're good at handing shear forces parallel to the sticking surface, but not at handling tension/ forces perpendicular to the surface. So basically you need a lot of sticky tabs, which means a lot of surface area. After a few iterations and spider web fails I came up with this… thing… which affixes with two strips of double-sided tape/ sticky tabs to a flat surface with enough strength to support the decorations.
