This is a remodeling of the PCB Drill Press by Geminy_Studio. I designed it to have a larger range of travel to make more use of a 775 motor.
I included small holes which I used as guides to drill 2mm holes in the handle shafts to use a piece of 2mm rod as a joiner rather than just glue. If too much force is applied, the 2mm rods have shattered the couple and pinion gear before so I made them a bit more beefy, but it's probably a safe bet to use some glue in addition to the 2mm rods.
I included room for a 3/4" x 2.5" spring to use as the return force. I'm still not happy with how this works, though. One problem was the rack becoming detached from the pinion by too much travel so I included a stop to prevent the pinion from rotating beyond a certain point and thus locking the rack at a max height. I still wish I had more range of motion and steadier restoring force rather than an increasing spring force. As compensation for this, I added room in the top to fit a bearing to hold th
