The Xianju Lantern, also known as the Xianju needle-pierced boneless lantern, originated in Xianju County, Zhejiang Province, and dates back to the Tang Dynasty. It is commonly referred to in folk tradition as the “Tang Lantern.”Its most distinctive feature is that the lantern body requires no internal frame. Instead, it is assembled from dozens of individual panels. All decorative patterns on the surface are created by hand-piercing the paper with embroidery needles, one hole at a time.
