In my case of mounting a camera, I have found that I will need a lot of links just to bend the whole thing so my camera is facing the bed. These individual links don't allow for much angle change. If you print enough standard links for your application it might become a massive, unnecessary snake.
So I have remixed the link part to be bent 90 degrees to solve my problem. Maybe it will help solve yours.
