I use these indicators to determine the ideal print temperature and flowrate for new rolls of filament. They take about an hour to print and only cost a few cents worth of material, however they save me a lot of time, guesswork, and failed prints.
For the temperature gauge, I slice it in Cura using vase/spiralize mode, and set the first couple layers to print at my typical settings. At layer 3, I use Extensions>Post Processing>Modify G-Code>TweakAtZ to lower the nozzle temperature to 180C. At the 10mm height, I use that feature again to raise it to 185C, at 20mm 190C, etc., the rest of the way up the indicator.
After printing I inspect the piece by first attempting to crush the lower end of the column where it has printed colder. Generally it is easy to find the point at which the layers begin to adhere to one one another well; then I look toward the top end of the scale for any signs of overheating. Choosing a print temperature somewhere near the middle of those extremes usually
