TEST-SUPPORT MODULE DOCKING SYSTEM

The concept is to have a modular system where the test section is split into two modules: the support module and the test area module. The support module is prepared outside the tunnel. There are several support modules with different types of mounting systems (vertical strut, horizontal strut, arm, etc.) There are also several test area modules. These are pre-instrumented and calibrated for the different types of tests (Pressure sensitive paint, high speed shadowgraph, infrared flow, FLEET). Both modules dock together and are then coupled to the tunnel. The support module can be interchanged with different test area modules to perform different tests in the same model without setting up again. The approach is conceived with feasibility, manufacturability and simplicity in mind. All the component and assemblies are easily manufactured through conventional industrial processes.
