The Eye Opening Device

This is a two piece object which can be wore on both left and right eyes--the two parts are identical and are not eye-side specific. From the top they look like a capital “I.” However, from the side they form a squared-off “C.” The Eye Opening Device is used to prevent one from closing their eyes; it does this through the tension created by forcing the upper eyelid open and pulling down on the lower eyelid. Although it does not stop the urge to blink, it renders blinking and fully closing the eyes impossible. Therefore, the user is able to stay awake. Additionally, the drying out of the eyes due to the lack of blinking and exposure to air creates discomfort, making it a challenge to sleep. The Eye Opening Device keeps the user awake during times when this is necessary, such as during late studio nights and early morning classes.
