I wanted a way to tame the FooFighter a little for indoor stuff. So I made these in OpenSCAD. The script will work for any size true X frame just with a few changes to variables.
It is printed flat with minimal supports(only the outer ring needs support for where it connects to the next ring). The multi-part construction helps put the layers in a direction that gives strength to the whole construction. It also means that any part can be swapped out if it gets damaged or broken without having to replace a whole guard.
The joints are profiled to aid in assembly, and are designed to just take a drop of super glue to hold them in place. The guards then join to each other with either M2 screws(taping the plastic) or some 1.75mm filament used like a rivet.
I printed them in NinjaTek Armadillo 75D TPU. If you haven't already tried Armadillo then I highly recommend you give it a go. It is really rigid but has some flex so is not as brittle as other harder plastics.
I wouldn't
