toiletry kit, aka, Dopp kit, to be the best thing available. It holds a surprising amount, folds into a compact and packable shape, yet unrolls at your destination into a hanging arrangement that makes everything accessible at a glance without rooting around. The price is also right ($12). :-)

Frequently there is a good place available to hang it in my hotel room or friend's bathroom, but sometimes there isn't. I spent a few minutes designing a simple hook that takes advantage of the fact that there is commonly space above and behind a bathroom wall mirror, and that closely fits the clip at the top of the kit. The hook is small and fits into the kit easily, so you'll always have it if needed.
