As participants of the Extreme Redesign Challenge my partner and I decided to choose a product that is used on a daily basis. After going through a rigorous selection process, we came to the conclusion of innovating the toothpaste squeezer. The current way the product is used is if there is barely any toothpaste left in the tube the person has to set up their toothbrush beforehand so they can use both hands to force the last bit of toothpaste out. The main weakness of this product is one would have to use two hands which requires extra effort and leaves the toothbrush standing on its own. Most of the past solutions are the toothpaste tube is slid through an object shaped somewhat like lips, and pulled to forcibly eject the toothpaste from the tube. However, our solution makes it simpler to get all the toothpaste from the tube, and the ability to have one hand on the toothbrush while having one hand on the toothpaste squeezer. Our solution improves upon the existing solutions because the tube of toothpaste will sit in a stable structure and all one has to do is twist the handle causing a roller connected to the handle to push the necessary amount of toothpaste out onto the toothbrush. The toothpaste structure is made to sit still by itself, so when it gets down to the last bit, it will be just as simple as the beginning when the tube was full. Our main reason for redesigning this solution was to make everyone's morning routine easier because everyone has been through the struggle of trying to get all the toothpaste out of the tube. 3D Printing Method Part: Body Material Selected: PLA Plastic Number of Shells: 2 Infill: 5% Layer Height: 0.1 mm Raft: Yes Support Material: No Part: Roller and Squeezer Material Selected: PLA Plastic Number of Shells: 2 Infill: 5% Layer Height: 0.1 mm Raft: Yes Support Material: Yes School: Hobart High School: Hobart, IN Instructor Name: Brent Vermeulen Partners: Angelo Guarnero and Tre Montique
