I printed the original design in PLA, ABS, and PETG but all got weaker and lost their grip after about a couple of days of use. Have added a spring and so far it's been working fine.
You can print in your material of choice as long as it does not deform easily under the force of the spring. It can be printed without supports. The spring is taken out of a ballpoint pen.
