Inspired by the tree trunks I saw on Thingiverse I wanted to create some trees with leaves for a sculpture. I carefully designed this tree so it would not need any supports and the tree would be balanced so it could stand on its own - though it is designed to be glued to a flat surface. The design is entirely my own.
This actually worked for the small tree (90 mm high) although it does need a large brim (8mm) which I taped down. Then I scaled it up to 180 mm and made four attempts adjusting parameters to reduce jerk, stray wisps of filament, etc.. which all failed. One pic shows the small tree and a failed large print.
The problem was the tree is so top heavy so any tiny thing - a small filament blob, a tiny tug from a too hot strand of filament - becomes enough to hit the nozzle and pull the whole print over. Finally I gave up, rotated the print horizontally on its side, and used supports (no brim needed). I did set the support width to 3mm width and Slic3r supports pull
