This nice little object is a soap-film (or minimal surface) connecting two knots. The trefoil knot, in the center, is one of the knots we use everyday to lace our shoes, a very simple knot (with genus one). The second one, forming the outer ring, is barely a knot. It's the infamous unknot, the most simplest knot of all, the only one having genus zero: the circle.
As a minimal surface with a boundary defined by knots, the resulting Trefunknot is a Seifert surface (named after German topologist Herbert Seifert, 1907-1996). This surface is ideal for a pendant or earrings (see my designs on [Shapeways](https://www.shapeways.com/designer/treepleks/creations)).
Under Thingiview, try to rotate the object along its vertical axis and you will see it smiling and frowning, depending on the angle.
