After I built my new workbench, I wanted an easy and reliable way to place my filament spools and keeping the desk clean. So I decided to design a very simple but rigid mount to screw under the desk. And here we are:
This is a simple mount to screw onto any surface edge. It holds an 8mm steel shaft. You can glue it in or use a threaded rod and put some nuts into the gap to save as much room as possible.
I also added some spindles in different length:
54mm spools (800g from "Das Filament")
64mm spools (1000g generic spools)
104mm spools (2600g from "Das Filament")
All spindles have the perfect size for standard 608 Bearings and have a tight fit that needs no glue. All sizes have the same distance of the inner bearings. So the shaft only needs to be 80mm long + 80mm inside the holder. You can just put the spindles on without a nut, they will hold fine from the own weight but you still can use a nut to tighten it against the bearings and tune the roll resistance of the spool.
