FROM THE PAST TO THE FUTURE The first flight of an aircraft engine, the Wright brothers' flyer, took place over 100 years ago. The technology of flight has undergone significant change, but the principle is always the same: to generate a driving force through the resistance to progress of the airplane in the air. On this principle the designers have invented thousands of variations. A variant unusual is that of the ducted impeller. One of the first was the Italian engineer Antonio Mattioni who in 1923 built the "Flying Barrel". Another Italian engineer Luigi Stipa designed for the manufacturer Caproni aircraft with ducted impeller and that in 1932. I therefore apologize to the illustrious predecessors if I dare to present a re-edition of a flying barrel, but this type of aircraft is very funny and then has a large surface area to decorate! I think that 27 years in aviation, are few: Airplanes are perhaps one of the longest-running machines. Consistent with flight hours, aircraft of thirty years old are still young, since in 2040 they may not come again the engine with quantum mechanics can go well flyng a barrel!
