Variable Air Capacitor, 3D Printed, using Square sheet metal for the capacitance vanes, DIY project by The ID of ED March 2025
This is a home made Variable Air Capacitor meant for Crystal Radios. The design is conceived to make a capacitor that is as easy to make as possible using 3D printing for most all the parts and using very simple shape for the metal vanes that store the electric charge. The only likely challenge is cutting out the thin aluminum sheet metal. A small light sheet metal shear is recommended. The aluminum is .010 to .012” thick sheet metal that is used for flashing and can be got very inexpensively at local home improvement stores. If you have no practical means to get the sheet metal cut then I would recommend not trying this project otherwise.
