This unit is quieter than using a shop vac as your dust collection system.
This is just one of many vortex dust collectors out there. This one was made specifically for my 3018 table CNC and to exercise my skills in Fusion 360. This also includes a schematic for the motor control that permits using GRBL commands M8/M9 (IO pin A3) switch operation, two outputs which I use for cooling fans and the dust collector turbine. This must be connected to the IO pin A3.
I used a 12V motor scavenged from a printer, but I run it a 24V to get a higher speed, yet it still only uses 0.15A. Time will tell how long the motor will last. I have lots of them.
As this is a High volume low pressure setup, it is great for small dust particles, larger chips may or may not be collected. Tested with flour it tarps 99% of particles. The larger the cross section of the path of low the better it is.
This can also be used with a shop vac as a prefilter by removing the fan housing and using the vacuum ad
