There's no better way to make sure your bed is parallel to the print head motion plane than to use a dial indicator.
This thing is designed for a very cheap (Harbor Freight) indicator and works plenty well for me to motion the print head around manually using the Machine Panel in Simplify 3D.
BE CARFUL: As is fairly obvious, with the indicator mounted in the mount, you will be able to crash the indicator into the sides of the machine if you move it fully, so ... don't do that.
I had an extra M8 laying around, so I used that, but this could easily be adjusted for whatever else. You can also throw washers on the ends and use what you've got laying around that's smaller than M8.
