One problem that third world countries face is a source of clean drinking water. In the past, people have invented ways to fix this problem, at a cost. For example: the Life Straw was a simple and easy way to convert unsafe or contaminated water into clean, drinkable water using a long series of filters. This allowed for safe consumption of dirty water by removing the “dirt.” The main problem with filters is that they are expensive to replace or maintain. My concept is a large water tower that has two taps: one to stop flow to the bottom tap to replace the filter, and one to release the water itself. The water tower would cause pressure, and a meter would be able to measure whether or not the filter was too dirty (slower passage of water), or had impurities, such as holes (causing quick and unfiltered water to exit the tank). Dirty water could be poured into the tank and would only be required to refill every one or two days, depending on water consumption. No invention or innovation is flawless, that goes without saying. One of two major flaws are: the filters might not remove all (or most of) the bacteria, and two: the initial cost for the tanks. The second issue will only be a problem during startup, unlike other filters, the entire device needs replacement after the filter is clogged. With this device, waterborne diseases and dirty water will be a thing of the past.
