This gives you the opportunity to calibrate your printer on X and Y, as well as check for large and small calibration values. It seems that being accurate at 20mm isn't necessarily accurate at 100mm for instance. You can now check accuracy in X and Y over multiple checks and decide which compromise is best for you.
After setting up with the eponymous 20mm cubes to configure my printer, I started printing some larger parts that required precision. I found I was getting precision problems, such as failing to slot a bearing into a recess for instance. I checked, and the printer seemed to be printing at about 98% size. No problem, I thought - I just increased the size of the part in the slicer. Then I found the part was a little bit sloppy - turns out my X axis was bang on (100.05mm) but my Y was 98mm. Looks like I'd only ever adjusted one axis.
