Since I had no experience with OpenSCAD, I started with doctec's sundial to learn from designing a real life object. I didn't understand much and started to eliminate things to get to the bare essence. After that I built my own dial. Thanks for the introduction, doctec!

My sundial will work nicely on the moderate latitudes on the northern hemisphere. This version doesn't work in the Southern hemisphere.

For this sundial some thoughts have been leading:
+ When the sun is at it's highest point, it is positioned exactly South (or North);
+ The 'sun revolves' in 24 hr around in a plane perpendicular to the Earth' rotation axis.
+ The elevation of the sun at its highest point may vary through the year;
+ The gnomon can be made as thick as desirable without distorting the time reading.

Since the dial depends on your specific location on Earth, it is useless to place stl files with this posting. You'll have to generate your specific model with OpenSCAD yourself.
