# The Yoshimoto Double Cube

[The Yoshimoto Cube](http://www1.ttcn.ne.jp/a-nishi/y_cube/z_y_cube.html) is a polyhedral mechanical puzzle invented in 1971 by Naoki Yoshimoto, who discovered that two star-shaped rhombic dodecahedrons could be assembled into a cube. These two dodecahedrons make it possible to split the cube equally in half.

The two polyhedra are articulated with hinges.

The attached stl files contain 2 elements and 2 axes of hinges. Four impressions are necessary to assemble the 8 elements of each dodecahedron, 8 impressions are necessary in all for the whole cube.

The assembly is done by inserting the narrow part of the hinge axis from the center of the edge to the end of the edge. A pair of pliers can be used to lock the hinge pin in its correct position.
