Contacts of Yubikey are intended to face upwards, away from the little bump of plastic on the one end of the opening.
The sloped shape gives a satisfying 'click' when stowing Yubikey. It is enough to hold the key within the holder, whilst offering minimal resistance when pulling the key out of holder, for usage.
