***What***
A way to reduce ringing by adding a small groove to a model and aligning the Z-seam to it.
***How***
-Load the STL file into a slicer (I used Cura)
-Make sure walls are printed counter clockwise (default in Cura).
-Align the seam to the groove, Cura instructions below:
Set the Z-seam settings to "User specified"
Check "Z-seam relative"
Set Z-seam Y to -1 or any value that is within the diameter of the model. A value outside the diamater also works but will not be quite as good.
-Set your speed settings high enough to show ringing, I used an Outer wall speed of 35mm/s and a Jerk of 15.
-Print, preferably with a shiny filament.
***Results***
Try editing the depth and angle of the groove in the Fusion 360 file to get an even better result.
Post a make if this worked for you and let me know what depth and angle you used :)
Perhaps a similar function could be added to Cura or other slicers "Start and stop point inset"?
