How It Works

Upload any photo — a product, a broken part, a toy, a decoration — and our AI analyzes the image to identify what it sees. It then generates search keywords and instantly queries our database of over 4 million 3D models across six platforms.

The whole process takes about 3 seconds. No account required.

The Technology Behind It

Under the hood, we use BLIP (Bootstrapping Language-Image Pre-training), an open-source AI model developed by Salesforce Research. BLIP generates natural language descriptions of uploaded images, which we then convert into search queries for our Meilisearch engine.

For example, upload a photo of a desk organizer, and BLIP might describe it as "a plastic organizer with compartments on a desk." We extract the keywords "organizer," "compartments," and "desk" and search our index — returning gridfinity bins, pen holders, and desktop organizers from Printables, Thingiverse, MakerWorld, and more.

What Works Well

Image Search delivers strong results for common 3D printing objects: figurines, phone stands, tools, storage solutions, decorative items, mechanical parts, and toys. It's especially useful when you don't know what something is called — just photograph it and let the AI figure it out.

Tips for Best Results

  • Clear photos work best — make sure the object is the main subject, not too far away
  • Simple backgrounds help — a cluttered scene confuses the AI
  • Multiple angles — if the first photo doesn't give great results, try a different angle
  • Edit and refine — after the AI generates keywords, you can click "Edit & refine" to adjust the search query manually

What's Next

This is version one. We're already working on improvements: better keyword extraction, support for STL file preview matching, and the ability to search by sketch or drawing. Your feedback helps us prioritize — let us know what you think.
