i was running into problems with not having enough bed space with ones that hang off the side, so i adapted semsemsem's pen holder to fit where the extruder mounts to.
seems to work quite well from my quick tests.

requires a fair amount of support, and is printed vertical, the same direction it'll be when in use.
the hole in the center is currently 9.7mm which should fit some Pilot Precise Rolling Ball pens.
