Few among the Knellbound remember what Belkey once was. Some whisper that he began life as a temple servant, a nimble creature of beams, rafters, and narrow sanctified halls, forever above the gaze of priests and nobles alike. Others claim he was never wholly mortal, but something already half-formed for worship, later perfected by years spent listening to the voices imprisoned inside sacred bronze. Whatever the truth, Belkey did not rise through lineage, revelation, or martial honor. He rose because he listened longer than any other, and because the tolling answered him in return. Now he stands as the Knellmaster, commander of the crawling procession and voice of the Knellbound in battle.
