I printed a few of the original masks for my family for which I thank Chris for posting. I turned out my wife and daughter had a bit of an issue with the post-apocalyptic look. I personally liked it and embellished on it.
However, I did find replacing the filters to be a bit of a problem. So, I embarked on making it a bit easier to change the filters. I created a mating section that can be hot-glued onto the mask. This forms an air-tight seal.
The filters I used are a combination of MERV 12 & 14 or 15. At least three layers can be press fit into the recess created by the mating section. My setup is a single layer of thin cotton fabric as the bottom layer closest to the face. Next a layer of MERV 12, followed by two layers of MERV 14. I tried three layers of MERV 14, but it was too resistant and breathing out forced the air to leak out the mask.
I made one modification to the mask itself and that was to remove some of the nose bridge area. This seemed to allow better
