A differential is a mechanical device used in vehicles to allow the wheels on the same axle to rotate at different speeds, especially when turning. It ensures smooth turns, reduces tire wear, and distributes engine power to the wheels. It usually consists of a casing, bevel gears (planetary and sun gears), and a crown gear. When the car goes straight, both wheels turn at the same speed; in a turn, the gears allow the outer wheel to rotate faster than the inner wheel.
