But silence breeds hunger. Now they call him Dopeling, and whatever he once was is long gone. His skin hangs in folds like wet silk stretched over muscle. His limbs are twisted and uneven, as if stitched together in the dark. His smile remains, but it is cracked and filled with teeth that no child’s tale should ever describe. Where once there were eyes, now there are gemstones jammed deep into his skull. They do not see, but they shine. They do not blink, but they bleed. His tiny cap, still purple and soft, is the only relic of who he used to be. A souvenir from a life erased. Dopeling wanders the echoing halls of the Styrega's lair, dragging his hands along stone and bone alike, mimicking words he no longer understands. He does not speak. He reflects. He absorbs.
