A flange coupling is a rigid coupling used to connect two co-axial shafts to transmit power and torque safely from one shaft to another. It is widely used in pumps, compressors, conveyors, and electric motor drives. Power is transmitted from the driving shaft → flange → bolts → opposite flange → driven shaft. Torque transmission occurs mainly through: Shear stress in bolts Shear stress in key Friction between flange faces (in some designs) Since it is a rigid coupling, it does not allow misalignment.
