We have some pull across gates in our house to keep the dogs / kids blocked off from certain areas. You mount them on one side of the hallway and mount the hook on the other. They hook on something like this... except the one that came with the gate broke. So I made another one.

I've adjusted it to make it bigger and stronger. More like the original.
