This is the Gearcube.

The Gearcube started out as a question in a conversation with a friend. The conversation went something like this:

"I had this idea. What if you made a cube that has gears on all sides, but when you turn one gear, all the gears turn at the same time? I think that would be pretty cool.", my friend said.
With that, I said, "That's a great idea! Let me try to make that."

And I did.

The task of creating the Gearcube may seem easy initially, as that is what I thought as well. However, it quickly turned into a complicated challenge. There were a lot of obstacles along the way; the gear concept came to life with much deliberation. You don't have to worry about that, though. All the files are here to let you skip the math and hours of work spent on something just to fidget with. If you do want to know how I came up with it, feel free to read through the rest of this post. If not, enjoy.
