When presented with a design challenge, students often intuitively use sketches or drawings to communicate their ideas. Professional designers and engineers also use sketches to communicate and have established professional standards and conventions to maximize understanding.
In this lesson, students work through the engineering design process to create a monogram cube keychain as they learn how to communicate their design ideas through thumbnail, isometric, and multiview sketches.
If using PLTW curriculum, this lesson supplements Design & Modeling 2019, Activity 1.2 “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words.” If you do not have access to PLTW curriculum, I have included links to alternate resources for instruction.
