Oldham Coupling

Oldham Coupling is a coupling for parallel shafts slightly out of line consisting of a disk on the end of each shaft and an intermediate disk having two mutually perpendicular feathers on opposite sides that engage slots in the respective shaft disks. The oldham coupling is a form of flexible coupling designed for applications that must be free from backlash. Oldham couplings are three-piece flexible shaft couplings that are used to connect driving and driven shafts in mechanical power transmission assemblies. They are also increasingly being used as a replacement for straight jaw couplings.
