There are many applications that require fabric hinges. The advantage is the off-axis freeplay between hinged components. Here is a 3D printable version which has the additional benefit of always springing back to a neutral position. When you print it in a chosen flexed position, then it will spring back to that shape. Since you can manufacture on demand, you will always have the optimal hinge. The special geometry of the cutouts causes the hinge to instantly adapt into minimal surface shapes, thus actively redistributing stress for resiliency.
